Child Care Worker Intern

Position Summary:
This internship provides high school students with hands-on experience in early childhood care and education. Interns will assist professional child care staff in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for young children. Through this role, students will gain valuable skills in communication, teamwork, and child development.

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Assist teachers and staff with daily classroom routines and activities.

  • Supervise and engage children in play, arts, reading, and educational games.

  • Help prepare materials, snacks, and classroom spaces.

  • Model positive behavior and support children’s social and emotional development.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.

  •  Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand basic principles of child development and early education.

  • Strengthen communication, patience, and problem-solving skills.

  • Learn classroom management and organizational techniques.

  • Explore career pathways in education, child care, and human services.

Qualifications:

  • High school student (11th - 12th grade).

  • Enjoy working with young children and helping others.

  • Responsible, dependable, and patient.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Details:

  • Duration: 32 Hours

  • Schedule: 5–10 hours per week (flexible with school schedule).

  • Location: Licensed child care center, preschool, or after-school program.

  • Supervision: Classroom teacher or child care professional.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
