Overview:
This internship introduces high school students to the world of engineering research. Interns will observe and assist engineers and researchers as they explore new ideas, test designs, and analyze data. The experience provides exposure to innovation, problem-solving, and collaboration in a research or laboratory setting.
Responsibilities May Include:
· Shadow engineers and researchers during experiments, design projects, or testing activities
· Assist with basic tasks such as organizing equipment, preparing materials, or recording observations
· Learn about the research process, including brainstorming, data collection, and analysis
· Observe how engineers apply math, science, and technology to solve real-world problems
· Support project teams with documentation, presentations, or research summaries (as appropriate)
· Gain exposure to professional communication and teamwork in a lab or office environment
· Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program
Learning Outcomes:
· Understand the role of research in advancing engineering and technology
· Learn how engineers test, improve, and communicate their ideas
· Gain awareness of lab safety, data organization, and ethical research practices

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.
SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
