Radio Broadcaster Intern

Overview:
This internship introduces high school students to the exciting world of radio broadcasting. Interns will observe and assist broadcasters and station staff as they prepare shows, operate equipment, and engage with listeners. The experience provides insight into media production, communication skills, and the behind-the-scenes work of running a radio station.

Key Responsibilities May Include:

·         Shadow radio broadcasters during live shows, interviews, and recording sessions

·         Assist with support tasks such as organizing playlists, preparing scripts, or updating station logs

·         Observe how broadcasters use equipment, communicate on-air, and connect with audiences

·         Learn about audio production, station programming, and FCC broadcasting guidelines

·         Gain exposure to teamwork, creativity, and professional communication in a media setting

   ·         Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Learning Outcomes:

·         Understand the role of radio broadcasters in entertaining and informing audiences

·         Learn basic broadcasting skills, including script preparation, audio setup, and voice delivery

·         Gain awareness of professionalism, media ethics, and audience engagement

·         Develop observation, organizational, and communication skills

·         Explore career and educational pathways in broadcasting, journalism, or media production

Preferred Skills/Interests:

·         Interest in media, communication, or performance

·         Creativity, confidence, and strong verbal communication skills

·         Professionalism, reliability, and willingness to learn

·         Basic familiarity with audio equipment or technology (helpful but not required)

Additional Information:

·         Interns will primarily observe and assist with beginner-level broadcasting tasks; they will not host shows independently without supervision

·         Compliance with workplace policies, station guidelines, and broadcasting standards is required

·         Some placements may involve flexible hours, including evenings or weekends for live events or shows

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
