Community Relations Intern
Overview:
This internship introduces high school students to the field of community relations and public outreach. Interns will observe and assist professionals as they plan events, build partnerships, and share information between organizations and the public. The experience provides insight into communication, event planning, and the importance of positive community connections.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
· Shadow community relations staff during meetings, events, and outreach activities
· Assist with support tasks such as preparing materials, organizing events, or updating contact lists
· Observe how professionals build partnerships, share information, and promote programs or services
· Learn about public communication strategies, event coordination, and community engagement
· Gain exposure to teamwork, problem-solving, and professional communication
· Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program
Learning Outcomes:
· Understand the role of community relations in building trust and promoting organizations
· Learning about event planning, outreach, and public communication
· Gain awareness of professionalism, ethics, and collaboration in community work
· Develop observation, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Additional Information:
· Interns will primarily observe and assist with beginner-level tasks; they will not independently manage community events or outreach campaigns

· Some placements may involve flexible hours, including evenings or weekends for events

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.
SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
