Interior Designer Intern

Overview:
This internship introduces high school students to the field of interior design and space planning. Interns will observe and assist designers as they create, plan, and organize interior spaces for homes, businesses, or community spaces. The experience provides insight into design concepts, creativity, client interaction, and the business side of interior design.

Key Responsibilities May Include:

·         Shadow interior designers during client meetings, design sessions, and project walkthroughs

·         Assist with support tasks such as organizing fabric and material samples, creating mood boards, or preparing presentations

·         Observe how designers select colors, furniture, lighting, and layouts to meet client needs

·         Learn about design software, space planning, and project coordination

·         Gain exposure to creativity, communication, and problem-solving in design projects

   ·         Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Learning Outcomes:

·         Understand the role of interior designer in creating functional and visually appealing spaces

·         Learn basic design principles, color theory, and project organization

·         Gain awareness of professionalism, creativity, and client service in design

·         Develop observation, organizational, and creative thinking skills

·         Explore career and educational pathways in interior design, architecture, or visual arts

Preferred Skills/Interests:

·         Interest in art, design, or architecture

·         Creativity, attention to detail, and strong communication skills

·         Willingness to learn to design software and organizational tools

·         Professionalism, reliability, and teamwork

Additional Information:

·         Interns will primarily observe and assist with support tasks; they will not independently design client projects

·         Compliance with workplace policies, professionalism, and client confidentiality is required

·         Some placements may involve attending site visits or client meetings outside of regular hours

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
