Computer Support Specialist Intern

Overview:
This internship introduces high school students to the field of computer support and technical assistance. Interns will observe and assist computer support specialists as they troubleshoot issues, help users, and maintain computer systems. The experience provides insight into problem-solving, technical support, and professional IT practices.

Key Responsibilities May Include:

·         Shadow computer support specialists during daily tasks such as helping users, resolving technical issues, and maintaining systems

·         Assist with support tasks such as organizing equipment, updating documentation, or preparing software for installation

·         Observe how support specialists diagnose and resolve hardware, software, or network problems

·         Learn about troubleshooting procedures, customer service, and IT best practices

·         Gain exposure to professional communication, teamwork, and technology management in a workplace environment

   ·         Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Learning Outcomes:

·         Understand the role of computer support specialists in assisting users and maintaining IT systems

·         Learn basic troubleshooting, customer support, and problem-solving techniques

·         Gain awareness of professionalism, ethics, and effective communication in technical support

·         Develop observation, organizational, and technical skills

·         Explore career and educational pathways in IT, computer support, or network administration

Preferred Skills/Interests:

·         Interest in technology, computers, or problem-solving

·         Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn new systems or software

·         Professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail

·         Strong communication and teamwork skills

Additional Information:

·         Interns will primarily observe and assist with support tasks; they will not perform independent system administration or security-critical tasks

·         Compliance with workplace policies, confidentiality, and IT security protocols is required

·         Some placements may involve assisting during off-hours or special IT projects

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
