CAD Specialist Intern

Overview:
This internship introduces high school students to the field of computer-aided design (CAD) and its use in engineering, architecture, and manufacturing. Interns will observe and assist CAD specialists as they create technical drawings, 3D models, and design plans. The experience provides insight into design software, problem-solving, and the role CAD plays in turning ideas into real-world products or structures.

Key Responsibilities:

·         Shadow CAD specialists during design and drafting projects

·         Learn the basics of CAD software (such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar programs)

·         Assist with simple design tasks like updating drawings, organizing files, or preparing project documentation

·         Observe how CAD drawings are used by engineers, architects, or builders

·         Gain exposure to teamwork and professional communication in design-related projects

   ·         Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Learning Outcomes:

·         Understand the role of CAD in design, engineering, and manufacturing processes

·         Learn basic CAD tools for creating and modifying drawings or 3D models

·         Gain awareness of accuracy, detail, and standards in technical design

·         Develop problem-solving, organizational, and digital skills

·         Explore career and educational pathways in drafting, design, engineering, or architecture

Preferred Skills/Interests:

·         Interest in design, engineering, or technology

·         Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions

·         Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new software

·         Creativity, curiosity, and professionalism

Additional Information:

·         Interns will primarily observe and assist with beginner-level design tasks; they will not be responsible for final design work

·         Compliance with workplace policies, confidentiality, and safety guidelines is required

·         Some placements may require orientation or basic training in CAD software before starting

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
