Overview:
This internship introduces high school students to the field of construction management and the teamwork needed to complete building projects. Interns will observe project managers, engineers, and site supervisors as they coordinate construction activities, manage schedules, and ensure safety on the job site. The experience provides insight into planning, leadership, and the business side of construction.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
· Shadow construction managers during site visits, meetings, and planning sessions
· Learn how schedules, budgets, and resources are managed in construction projects
· Assist with support tasks such as organizing documents, updating logs, or preparing reports
· Observe safety practices, quality checks, and teamwork on construction sites
· Gain exposure to communication between contractors, architects, and project teams
· Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program
Learning Outcomes:
· Understand the role of a construction manager in overseeing building projects
· Learn about project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and safety requirements
· Gain awareness of construction processes and industry standards
· Develop organizational, observation, and communication skills
· Explore career and educational pathways in construction management, engineering, or architecture

Additional Information:
· Interns will primarily observe and assist with non-technical tasks; they will not operate heavy equipment or perform hazardous work
· Compliance with safety regulations, dress code (such as hard hats or safety vests), and workplace policies are required
· Some placements may require being outdoors and standing for extended periods during site visits

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.
SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
