Overview:
This internship introduces high school students to the field of recreation management. Interns will observe and assist recreation professionals as they plan, organize, and oversee recreational programs, events, and activities. The experience provides insight into event coordination, community engagement, and leadership in recreational settings.
Responsibilities May Include:
· Shadow recreation managers or coordinators during program planning and daily operations
· Assist with organizing events, setting up equipment, and preparing activity materials
· Observe how staff interact with participants and promote safe, inclusive activities
· Learn about scheduling, budgeting, and administrative tasks in recreation management
· Support marketing or outreach efforts for recreational programs
· Gain exposure to teamwork, leadership, and customer service in community or facility-based recreation
· Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program
Learning Outcomes:
· Understand the role of recreation managers in planning and running programs
· Learn about event organization, safety procedures, and participant engagement
· Gain awareness of leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills in a professional setting
· Develop teamwork, organizational, and customer service skills

Additional Information:
· Interns will primarily observe and assist with support tasks; they will not lead programs independently
· Compliance with safety, dress code, and workplace policies is expected
· Some placements may require participation during weekends or evenings depending on events

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.
SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
