Firefighting Intern

 

Overview:

This internship introduces high school students to the world of firefighting and emergency services. Interns will learn how fire departments serve the community, gain exposure to firefighting techniques, and develop professional skills through observation, training, and guided participation in non-hazardous activities.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Shadowing firefighters and emergency responders during daily routines
  • Assisting with equipment checks, maintenance, and organization at the fire station
  • Learning about fire prevention, safety, and emergency response procedures
  • Observing ride-a longs under supervision and safety guidelines
  • Completing reflection journals, workbook entries, or projects as part of program requirements

Skills Developed:

  • Understanding of fire safety and emergency response procedures
  • Teamwork, communication, and leadership skills
  • Introduction to physical fitness and discipline needed in firefighting
  • Professionalism, time management, and responsibility
  • Career exploration in firefighting, emergency response, and public safety

Requirements:

  • Current high school student with an interest in firefighting, public safety, or emergency services
  • Willingness to learn, follow instructions, and always maintain safety
  • Strong sense of responsibility, maturity, and teamwork

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
