Cosmetologist/Barber Intern

Overview:
This internship introduces high school students to the field of cosmetology and barbering. Interns will observe licensed cosmetologists and barbers as they provide hair, skin, and nail care services to clients. The experience provides exposure to professional techniques, client interaction, and salon operations.

Responsibilities May Include:

· Shadow licensed cosmetologists or barbers during client appointments and salon operations

· Observe haircuts, styling, coloring, skincare, or nail care techniques (observation only; interns will not perform services on clients)

· Assist with salon tasks such as cleaning tools, organizing supplies, and maintaining workstations

· Learn about hygiene, sanitation, and safety procedures in a salon environment

· Observe professional communication with clients and teamwork among staff

· Gain exposure to scheduling, customer service, and salon business practices

· Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Learning Outcomes:

· Understand the role of cosmetologists and barbers in personal care and client services

· Learn about hygiene, sanitation, and safety standards in the salon industry

· Gain awareness of professional communication, customer service, and teamwork

· Develop observation, organizational, and professional skills

· Explore career and educational pathways in cosmetology, barbering, or beauty entrepreneurship

Additional Information:

· Interns will primarily observe and assist with support tasks; they will not perform services on clients

· Compliance with dress code, safety, and sanitation guidelines is required

· Some placements may involve flexible hours to accommodate salon schedules

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
