Automotive Body Repair Intern

 

Overview:

This internship provides high school students with the opportunity to explore the field of auto body repair and collision restoration. Students will observe technicians, assist with shop tasks, and gain exposure to the tools, equipment, and techniques used to repair and refinish vehicles. The internship is designed to give students hands-on experience and insight into career pathways in the automotive repair industry.

Responsibilities May Include:

·         Shadow auto body technicians during inspections, repairs, and refinishing projects.

·         Learn about vehicle frames, panels, painting, and detailing.

·         Assist with preparing tools, organizing supplies, and keeping the shop clean and safe.

·         Observe how damage assessments and repair estimates are performed.

·         Support technicians with simple prep work such as sanding, taping, or polishing (as appropriate).

·         Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program.

Skills & Knowledge Gained:

·         Introduction to auto body repair techniques and processes.

·         Awareness of tools, materials, and equipment used in the trade.

·         Understanding of safety practices in a repair shop environment.

·         Development of teamwork, organization, and communication skills.

·         Insight into education and career pathways in auto body repair and the automotive industry.

Requirements:

·         Interest in cars, repair, or skilled trades.

·         Willingness to follow safety guidelines and wear protective equipment.

·         Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

·         Reliability, professionalism, and strong attention to detail.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this internship, students will have a foundational understanding of auto body repair, practical exposure to shop environments, and clearer direction toward careers in collision repair and the automotive field.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
