Automotive Mechanic/Technician Intern

 

Overview:

This internship introduces high school students to the world of auto mechanics and automotive repair. Students will observe certified technicians, assist with shop tasks, and gain hands-on exposure to the tools, equipment, and processes used to maintain and repair vehicles. The internship is designed to help students explore a potential career in the automotive industry while building practical skills and workplace experience.

Responsibilities May Include:

·         Shadow automotive technicians during vehicle inspections, diagnostics, and repairs.

·         Learn about basic vehicle systems, including engines, brakes, and electrical components.

·         Assist with preparing tools, organizing supplies, and maintaining a clean and safe workspace.

·         Observe how diagnostic equipment and repair tools are used in real-world settings.

·         Support shop staff with tasks such as documenting work, checking inventory, and customer service.

·         Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program.

Skills & Knowledge Gained:

·         Introduction to automotive systems and repair processes.

·         Awareness of diagnostic tools, shop safety, and equipment use.

·         Hands-on experience with teamwork and communication in a technical setting.

·         Understanding of workplace professionalism, organization, and safety procedures.

·         Insight into career and education pathways in auto mechanics and related trades.

Requirements:

·         Interest in cars, mechanics, or skilled trades.

·         Willingness to follow safety procedures and wear protective gear.

·         Good communication and teamwork skills.

·         Reliability, professionalism, and strong attention to detail.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this internship, students will have a foundational understanding of automotive repair, hands-on exposure to shop environments, and clearer direction toward careers in auto mechanics and the automotive industry.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
