Overview:
This internship introduces high school students to the role of school counselors. Interns will observe counselors as they support students academically, socially, and emotionally. The experience provides insight into counseling strategies, student services, and how counselors help create a positive school environment.
Responsibilities May Include:
· Shadow school counselors during student meetings, workshops, and office tasks
· Observe how counselors guide students with academic planning, college and career readiness, and personal development
· Assist with non-confidential tasks such as organizing materials, preparing resources, and supporting school events
· Learn about professional ethics, confidentiality, and counseling strategies
· Observe collaboration between counselors, teachers, administrators, and parents
· Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

· Understand the role of school counselors in supporting student success
· Gain knowledge of academic guidance, career planning, and social-emotional support
· Develop awareness of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical practices in counseling
· Build observation, organizational, and communication skills
· Explore educational and career pathways in counseling, psychology, or education

Additional Information:
· Interns will primarily observe and assist with support tasks; they will not provide counseling services
· Compliance with school policies, dress code, and confidentiality rules is required
· Some placements may involve attending school events, workshops, or meetings

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.
SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
