Overview:
This internship introduces high school students to the role of ministers and pastors in faith communities. Interns will observe pastoral duties, assist with community programs, and gain insight into spiritual leadership and service. The experience provides exposure to counseling, event planning, and the day-to-day operations of a church or faith-based organization.

Responsibilities May Include:

·         Shadow ministers or pastors during services, counseling sessions, and community outreach

·         Assist with organizing church events, youth programs, or educational activities

·         Observe how ministers provide guidance, support, and spiritual leadership to congregants

·         Learn about ethical practices, confidentiality, and professional conduct in ministry

·         Support administrative tasks such as preparing materials, managing schedules, or maintaining records

·         Gain exposure to teamwork, communication, and community engagement in a faith setting

·         Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Learning Outcomes:

·         Understand the role of ministers and pastors in spiritual leadership and community support

·         Learn about counseling, event planning, and program coordination within a faith-based organization

·         Develop awareness of professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality

·         Gain observation, organizational, and communication skills

·         Explore educational and career pathways in ministry, theology, counseling, or community leadership

Preferred Skills/Interests:

·         Interest in ministry, leadership, counseling, or community service

·         Strong communication, empathy, and organizational skills

·         Professionalism, respect, and willingness to learn

·         Ability to observe and assist in a supportive, confidential manner

Additional Information:

·         Interns will primarily observe and assist with support tasks; they will not provide formal counseling or lead services independently

·         Compliance with dress code, professional conduct, and confidentiality is required

·         Some placements may involve participation in church events, services, or outreach programs

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
