Overview:
This internship introduces high school students to the role of an athletic director. Interns will observe how athletic programs are planned, managed, and supervised. The experience provides insight into sports program administration, event coordination, and leadership in a school setting.

Responsibilities May Include:

·         Shadow the athletic director during planning and management of sports programs, practices, and events

·         Assist with organizing schedules, equipment, and team logistics

·         Observe how the athletic director communicates with coaches, athletes, parents, and school staff

·         Support administrative tasks such as record-keeping, budgeting, or event planning

·         Gain exposure to compliance, safety regulations, and student-athlete support

·         Observe teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving in school athletics

   ·         Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Learning Outcomes:

·         Understand the role of an athletic director in managing school sports programs

·         Learn about event planning, scheduling, and team coordination

·         Gain awareness of safety, compliance, and student support in athletics

·         Develop organizational, communication, and leadership skills

·         Explore career and educational pathways in sports management, education, or athletics administration

·         Professionalism, teamwork, and reliability

·         Willingness to observe, assist, and learn

Additional Information:

·         Interns will primarily observe and assist with support tasks; they will not make independent administrative decisions

·         Compliance with dress code, safety protocols, and school policies is required

·         Some placements may involve attending practices, games, or events outside of regular school hours

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
