Overview:
This internship introduces high school students to the role of a coach in school athletics. Interns will observe coaches as they plan practices, lead training sessions, and support student-athletes. The experience provides insight into leadership, teamwork, and the management of sports programs.
Responsibilities May Include:
· Shadow coaches during practices, games, and team meetings
· Assist with non-instructional tasks such as setting up equipment, organizing drills, or maintaining practice areas
· Observe how coaches develop strategies, motivate athletes, and manage team dynamics
· Learn about safety protocols, sportsmanship, and athletic regulations
· Support administrative tasks such as attendance tracking, scheduling, or record-keeping
· Gain exposure to communication, leadership, and team management in athletics
· Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program
Learning Outcomes:
· Understand the responsibilities of a coach in developing student athletes and managing a team
· Learn about practice planning, game strategy, and athletic program management
· Gain awareness of safety, teamwork, and sportsmanship
· Develop observation, communication, and leadership skills
· Explore educational and career pathways in coaching, sports management, or physical education

Additional Information:
· Interns will primarily observe and assist with support tasks; they will not coach independently or provide training
· Compliance with dress code, safety protocols, and school policies is required
· Some placements may involve attending games, practices, or athletic events outside regular school hours

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.
SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
