Overview:
This internship introduces high school students to the role of librarians and media specialists in a school setting. Interns will observe and assist with organizing resources, supporting students and staff, and managing library or media center operations. The experience provides insight into information management, research, and educational support.
Responsibilities May Include:
· Shadow librarians or media specialists during daily library or media center activities
· Assist with organizing books, digital resources, and educational materials
· Observe how librarians support student research, reading programs, and technology use
· Help with shelving, cataloging, and maintaining media or library equipment
· Support events, workshops, or educational programs hosted by the library
· Gain exposure to professional communication, information management, and student support
· Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program
Learning Outcomes:
· Understand the role of librarians/media specialists in supporting student learning and information access
· Learn about library organization, cataloging, and digital resource management
· Gain awareness of professionalism, communication, and teamwork in educational settings
· Develop organizational, research, and observational skills

Additional Information:
· Interns will primarily observe and assist with support tasks; they will not supervise students independently or manage library operations alone

· Some placements may involve assisting with school events, workshops, or digital media projects

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.
