Overview:

This internship offers high school students the opportunity to explore the field of dentistry and learn how dental professionals promote oral health. Students will observe the daily work of dentists, dental hygienists, and assistants while gaining exposure to the clinical environment. The internship is designed to give students a hands-on introduction to oral healthcare and insight into career pathways in dentistry.

Responsibilities May Include:

·         Shadow dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants during patient care.

·         Observe dental procedures and learn about oral health practices.

·         Assist staff with preparing rooms, organizing tools, and maintaining a clean workspace.

·         Learn about dental instruments, sterilization practices, patient safety, and dental plans.

·         Support front office duties such as greeting patients, scheduling, and filing.

·         Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Skills & Knowledge Gained:

·         Introduction to dental anatomy and oral health.

·         Understanding of the different roles in a dental office.

·         Awareness of dental tools, technology, and safety procedures.

·         Professional communication and teamwork skills.

·         Insight into education and career pathways in dentistry and dental hygiene.

Requirements:

·         Interest in healthcare, science, or oral health.

·         Good communication and organizational skills.

·         Professionalism, confidentiality, and respect for patients and staff.

·         Willingness to learn in both clinical and office settings.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
