Physical Therapist Intern

Overview:

This internship provides high school students with the opportunity to explore the field of physical therapy and learn how professionals help patients recover from injuries, improve mobility, and manage pain. Students will gain exposure to the healthcare setting, assist with non-clinical tasks, and observe the daily work of licensed physical therapists and physical therapy assistants.

Responsibilities May Include:

                    Shadow physical therapists and observe therapy sessions with patients.

                    Learn about the role of physical therapy in rehabilitation, injury prevention, and overall health.

                    Assist staff with preparing therapy areas, cleaning equipment, and organizing supplies.

                    Participate in discussions about anatomy, exercise science, and treatment techniques.

                    Support front office tasks such as filing, greeting patients, and scheduling.

                    Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Skills & Knowledge Gained:

                    Understanding basic anatomy and movement science.

                    Introduction to rehabilitation techniques and therapy equipment.

                    Professional communication skills with patients and healthcare staff.

                    Insight into different career paths within physical therapy and healthcare.

                    Workplace professionalism, time management, and teamwork.

Requirements:

                    Interest in healthcare, sports medicine, or rehabilitation sciences.

                    Willingness to learn in both clinical and office settings.

                    Strong communication and organizational skills.

                    Ability to maintain confidentiality and show respect for patients and staff.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
