Clerical Assistant Intern

Internship Length: 45 hrs
Office Hours: 8:00-4:00, M-F

Requirements:

    • Student must complete the online Mercy Medical volunteer form ONCE they are approved through the WLC internship process. www.mercycare.org
      Student must attend and participate in the Mercy Orientation Process:
      Provide immunization Records that include: 2 MMR's, Varicella and Flu Shot or  Titre Tests. Student must check with Mercy volunteer coordinator if they seek a  medical or religious exemption.
      Annual TB Test Required
      Background Check
      HIPPA Training, Training Videos and Confidentiality Forms
      Adhere to department requirements for processes and procedures as listed in  job descriptions functions. 
      Positions are offered through Mercy Medical sites for a 45 hour Practicum format only.  Time preference ranges are M-F 8AM-12noon or 12noon-4PM.

      •  Ability to follow instructions.  Must have strong organizational and communication skills, be a team player, and enjoy working with the public without bias or prejudice.  Must be detail-oriented.  Professional and trustworthy conduct is required.  Student must be courteous and respectful.
      • Experience/Education:  Must be a high school student in good standing.  Must possess a positive attitude while being flexible.    
      • Business casual attire.
      • Student must park in volunteer assigned areas only and wear Mercy ID at all times.
      • Must enjoy working with all age groups without prejudice or bias.
      • Must exercise confidentiality of patient and hospital information.
      • May spend up to 80% of working time standing or walking.
      • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull objects weighing at least 25 pounds. 

Objective:                   Clerical assistant in assigned departments

Hours:                         Weekdays 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM  

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills
  • Positive, service-oriented individuals
  • Good organizational and telephone skills
  • Must be able to communicate clearly
  • Demonstration of effective interpersonal skills

Training:        

  • Must attend initial Volunteer orientation presented by the Volunteer Services Department.  Attend and participate in house orientation, training.  Attend Department orientation and updating

Competencies:

  • Understanding and following directions
  • Work effectively with others and without direct supervision
  • Operating various office equipment, (copier, fax machine, computer)
  • Working with confidential documents and records
  • Acting without waiting for instructions
  • Ability to communicate in writing and verbally
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of effective hand hygiene

Responsibilities:

  • Making up charts using Excel and Word
  • Make copies & special assigned projects
  • Filing patient records and charts

  • THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

    SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
