Dietary Intern

Internship Length: 45 hrs
Office Hours: 8:00-4:00, M-F

Essential Functions:

  • Deliver meals and collect trays. Documents patient meal intake.
  • Assist patients with menu selections.
  • Correct menus per diet ordered by physician and food preferences.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service relationships with external and internal customers.
  • Provide diet overview information to the patient per diet order.
  • Work closely with dietitian in determining special requests for the patients.
  • Offer routine snacks to patients at appropriate times.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Student must complete the online Mercy Medical volunteer form ONCE they are approved through the WLC internship process. This includes HIPPA Training, Training Videos and Confidentiality Forms.
  • Student must attend and participate in the Mercy Orientation Process.
  • Student must provide immunization records that include: 2 MMR's, 2 Varicella and Flu Shot or Titre Tests, plus be fully-vaccinated against Covid. Student must check with Mercy volunteer coordinator if they seek a medical or religious exemption. TB Test is required; this will be done at Mercy and Mercy will cover the cost.
  • Student must have a social security number or appropriate visa number because a background check will be performed.
  • Student must adhere to department requirements for processes and procedures as listed in job descriptions functions.
  • Student must exhibit friendliness and a desire to assist. Must provide the highest quality of service. 
  • Student must have good communication, organization and interpersonal skills. Must enjoy working with all age groups without prejudice or bias and demonstrate complete respect for the rights of every individual.
  • Student must be dependable, and take pride and ownership in work.  Must be a team player and able to perform routine tasks without being prompted.
  • Student must be mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible. Professional and trustworthy conduct is required.
  • Business casual attire. 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
