Heavy Equipment Technician/Parts Warehouse Intern

Office Hours: 7:30-4:00, M-F

Essential Functions of Heavy Equipment Technician:

  • Student will work alongside a certified Altorfer mechanic who will educate him/her about the occupation of a heavy equipment diesel mechanic and mentor them throughout their internship.
  • The student intern will assist the certified Altorfer mechanic in tearing down equipment and repairing loaders, excavators, bull dozers, skid steers and more.
  • These duties will include, but are not limited to, preventative maintenance (including writing service orders and ordering of parts), repair diagnostics, component rebuilds on heavy equipment. 
  • Any work performed by the student will be under the direct supervision of a certified Altorfer mechanic, shop supervisor or others employed by Altorfer.
  • Student will have limited exposure with customers who have equipment needs and/or repair questions.
  • Student will meet the performance and safety standards and specifications held by Altorfer, as well as assist in keeping work areas neat and organized to promote positive image.
  • Student will use appropriate behavior in keeping with Altorfer’s mission to fulfill the needs of our customers and partners with providing quality products, solutions, and support. Every member of our team works together to meet customers equipment-related needs, taking a ‘can do’ attitude and seeing it through until it’s done. We stand by our products and above all else, we “tell it like it is”.

 

Essential Functions of Parts Warehouse:

  • Student will work alongside an Altorfer warehouse employee who will educate him/her on the occupation of a parts warehouse specialist.
  • The student intern will assist in pulling tickets, locating parts to fulfill customer orders.
  • Hand fulfilled orders to customers picking up their parts.
  • Deliver parts to shop personnel by walking their orders to their bay in the shop (may use a pushcart to deliver multiple boxed parts to shop employees).
  • Create/pull labels for shipping off the label printer. Pull smaller orders and package parts, organize and relocate parts and assist with warehouse housekeeping (sweeping and dusting).

 

Minimum requirements:

  •  Skills/Knowledge: Ability to follow instructions, have strong organizational and communication skills, be a team player, and enjoy working with the public without bias or prejudice. Must be detail-oriented, courteous, and respectful. Professional, trustworthy, and confidential conduct is required. Intern must enjoy working in a team environment, be a self-starter, motivated and able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience/Education: Must be a high school student in good standing and interested in pursuing a diesel technology degree or going through the ThinkBIG program after high school. Must be mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.
  •  Attire: Plan to dress appropriately for work performed in a shop with occasion for outdoor work. Jeans or workpants free of holes, safety-toe shoes and shirts appropriate for working in the shop (plain shirts with no writing preferred). Safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, and vests will be provided by Altorfer. If students have their own basic hand tools, we encourage them to bring them onsite.
  •  General physical activities to be performed with or without reasonable accommodation: Frequent reaching, walking, climbing on/off equipment, and lifting up to 50lbs. Occasional kneeling, crouch, sitting, standing, grasping, pulling and pushing.


 

This description does not list all duties. Intern may be asked to perform other duties by the staff or supervisor. Intern will be evaluated on performance of the projects listed as well as interaction with employees and clients. On-site hours will be negotiated with each candidate.
